Writing

I have enjoyed writing for years. But good, soulful writing takes time and energy, and with two young children, a small business and an adoption almost finalized, investing time in writing is a real choice. As much as I know that telling my story is healing - for myself and for others - choosing to do it is hard.

I haven't always chosen to write. I have chosen religion and rules, acceptance and accomplishments, busyness and the-next-thing. I've chosen Pinterest projects and yet another church service, over really taking care of my soul. For almost three decades of life, I expressed myself within the confines of shoulds, within the time boundaries of everyone else's needs and with a constant sense of not enough

Then I lost my best friend. Then I lost my career. Then I lost my son. Finally, after tragically losing a family member, I started to wake up. I started to realize that I needed to take care of myself, that I needed to find myself. And serendipitously, I realized that writing - and reading other honest, soulful writers - was my way home.

Now, I write to keep myself awake and to find the thread of truth and love and meaning woven throughout my days. I write toward wholeness, toward connection, toward freedom. As author Anne Lammot has said, "I try to write what I would love to come upon."

I share my writing in hopes that I may be that place you so needed to come upon. In hopes of encouraging you to take care of yourself, to find yourself and to start walking the beautiful, brave journey of telling your story.

I recently published my first book, One Slender Thread, now available for purchase! I also write monthly for All Things With Purpose and An Inch of Gray, and have been featured at The Phoenix Soul and A Sacred Journey.

Every quarter, I run a 30 Day Writing Challenge - a chance for you to join me in experiencing the hope and meaning and power of telling your story. Need a little convincing? Here are 3 Minutes That Will Change Your Life, also known as the top six reasons why you should write your story!

Whether you tuck your words away in a journal, share your stories with a few friends or post them in a blog for all the world to see, there will be healing and freedom just from having written. As author and doctor Charles L. Whitfield has said, "The most useful and healing thing about telling our own story is that we, the story teller, get to hear our story. When we tell our story from our hearts, bones and guts, from our Real Self, we discover the truth about ourselves. Doing so is healing."

Join the 30 Day Writing Challenge!
I will send you a writing prompt each week, and also a creative exercise to help you go deeper and see farther. You'll take things at your own pace, in your own space. Sharing is optional, but truth-telling is not. I'll encourage you, challenge you and write alongside you.

The next 30 Day Writing Challenge will begin: I have concluded all 2015 Challenges. Please stay tuned for future offerings, or email me with questions.

Will you join me?

Here's what others are saying about the 30 Day Writing Challenge:

I woke up excited every Sunday morning, delighted to read that week's question! I would definitely recommend this course, mostly because it has helped me find me again. ~Joy

Noelle's Writing Challenge pushed me to think and write about my story in ways I never have before. I know I have a long way to go in learning to write with vulnerable transparency but I feel that I now have the tools to keep moving forward. I would definitely recommend this course to anybody who is interested in learning to tell their story.   ~Wendy

What I enjoyed the most was having a prompt to guide my writing. Writing is a form of creativity for me, but sometimes I don't know where to begin. I also liked that Noelle did it along side us, shared and kept in touch to encourage us. I appreciated her encouragement each week to make time. I would absolutely recommend this to other people.    ~Katie

I enjoyed the challenge of taking time out of crazy busy schedules to write and be free to write whatever my heart/mind needs (within the prompt given). I thought the prompts were posed well and provided direction without being constraining.  I have already recommended the course to friends!      ~Holly
